President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had a phone conversation with Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel.
The Head of State expressed deep condolences to the Chancellor over the crash of Malaysia Airlines aircraft which ended up killing 298 people, among them 4 German citizens.
Petro Poroshenko informed on the establishment of the international investigative team to clear out circumstances of the disaster and invited German specialists to take part in its work.
Angela Merkel noted that “it is a terrible tragedy that shocked the entire world” and commended the willingness of the Ukrainian government to carry out an open and objective investigation into circumstances of the accident.
The President also informed the Chancellor on the situation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. “The situation in the conflict zone remains tensed. In particular, firing on the positions of Ukrainian servicemen along the borderline is continued,” the Head of State said.
The Federal Chancellor expressed support to Ukraine and assured that she would further make additional efforts to achieve peaceful settlement of the situation in the Donbas.
At the end of the conversation Petro Poroshenko expressed gratitude to Angela Merkel for her support and personal contribution to the formation of the European Council’s position on Ukraine declared on July 16.
