On September 20th, 2017 Consul of the Consulate General of Ukraine in San Francisco Alexander Krotenko participated in the ceremony of signing by President of the Oregon State Peter Courtney of copies of the Resolution on recognition of Holodomor in Ukraine in 1932-1933 as genocide of Ukrainian people and designation of November 25th, 2017 as Commemoration Day of this crime in Oregon.
This Resolution was adopted by both chambers of the state’s legislature unanimously on June 20th, 2017. The main sponsors of the Resolution are Oregon State Senators Laurie Monnes Anderson and Jeff Kruse. Overall 11 senators and 4 representatives of the lower chamber of Oregon’s legislature were sponsors of the Resolution.
The preparation of the draft Resolution was initiated by the Ukrainian community of the state on the basis of information materials provided by the Consular Post.
During the ceremony, the Consul informed about the tragic consequences of the Stalin's regime repression of millions of Ukrainians and expressed his gratitude to the Senate’s President, the Resolution’s sponsor and senators for the support of this important initiative.
