On August 31, 2017 the California State Assembly adopted the Resolution on designation of November 25, 2017 as Ukraine’s Holodomor Commemoration Ukraine 1932-1933. The decision was taken unanimously (http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=201720180ACR105).
The preparation of the draft Resolution was initiated by the Consulate General of Ukraine in San Francisco with the support of the Ukrainian state community, on the basis of a similar resolution approved by the California State Assembly of August 18, 2016 and information materials provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
The sponsor of the resolution is California Assembly Member Kevin Kiley.
In his speech during the Floor session Kevin Kiley informed Assembly members about the tragic consequences of the Staline’s regime repression of millions of Ukrainians and stressed that the Holodomor in Ukraine was an act of genocide against Ukrainian people.
After the voting Consul General of Ukraine Serhiy Alyoshin expressed his gratitude to the Resolution’s sponsor and members of the legislative body for the support of this important initiative.
