On August 31, 2017, the California State Senate adopted the Resolution on recognition of the Independence Day of Ukraine. The decision was taken unanimously (http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=201720180SR57).
The preparation of the draft Resolution was initiated by the Consulate General of Ukraine in San Francisco with the support of the Ukrainian community of California on the basis of a similar resolution approved by the California State Senate on August 18, 2016 and information materials provided by the Embassy of Ukraine in the USA.
The sponsor of the Resolution is California State Assembly Member James Wiley Nielsen. In general, there were __ co-sponsors of the Resolution.
In his speech during the Plenary hearing Senator Nielsen informed members of the Senate about the significant contribution that the Ukrainian community has been making to the development of California.
After the voting during his speech Consul General of Ukraine Sergiy Aloshyn expressed his gratitude to the Speaker of the Senate, the Resolution’s sponsor and all members of the legislative body for the support of this important initiative. He also noted that California is the third US largest state by a number of Ukrainians, and emphasized on strong connection of Ukrainian diaspora with the historic Motherland.
